The Prater Park

The park's name comes from the Latin word “pratum”, which can be translated as a meadow. Prater is one of the most popular attraction of Vienna. It is located between Danube Canal and Danube, which covers the large area of attractions in the heart of city Vienna, Austria. From around the world, numerous tourists have a dream to visit this park on their vacation.

History of the Prater Park

The park has a rich history, which began in 1162. The park was donated by the royal family of Emperor Frederick I. Once upon a time, territory of the park belonged to the individual owners, who used it for hunting. But from 1766, Emperor Joseph II opened the territory for the people to visit, free of cost. Now Prater offers its visitors, a lot of entertainment variety. The first things to be called historical still exists in the park from a long time, such as "Vienna Carousel" with live pony, "Giant Ferris Wheel". Amusement Park:

The Prater Amusement park is one the oldest park in the Europe. Now, the Prater is a modern entertainment for the world, which offers more than 200 attractions. There is a world's biggest chained carousel named "Praterturm". It has 117 meters of height and run with the speed of 60 km/hr. You can enjoy this amazing "Praterturm" in just 5 Euros. At the Madame Tussaud's visitors can meet the Empress Elizabeth, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gustav Klimt, Falco and numerous other world celebrities.

Other attractions in the Amusement park are: Bungee Jump, Turbo Boost, Ejection seat etc. Children are invited to an interactive trip to the penguins and polar bears. There is a miniature rail that takes you to the ride around the whole park.

It is always happy to welcome the visitors to the city, but the amusement park is open only in the warmer months. You will be able to visit it from 15 March to 31 October.

Ferris Wheel:

There are two Ferris wheels, one is old and other is new, which deserves the special attention of the tourists. The old Ferris wheel was designed and assembled by English engineer Walter Basset. The wheel's height is 64.75 meters, now it has become a symbol of Vienna. It was built in 1897 on the occasion of the world exhibition by Walter Basset, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I.

Initially, there were 30 booths in the wheel, but for the security reasons 15 cars were removed. Since 1987 the booth number 30 is a carriage suite, where you can hold meetings, business negotiations and even celebrate the holidays. The walls are covered with mahogany, marble tables, curtains in the Art Nouveau style, modern soft lighting and carpets.

Ferris Wheel

How to get to the ferris wheel in Vienna: Giant Ferris Wheel is open daily from March to October, but the time depends on the season. From May to August it is open from 9 am to 24.00 and in September from 9.00 am to 11 pm, in March and April - 10.00 am to 10 pm. Ticket for an adult will cost 8 Euros, for children - 3.5 Euros for children under 3 years are free.

How to get there?

Metro, tram and buses offer all the combinations necessary to communicate the different districts of Vienna in a quick manner. Near the entrance to the park there are two stations of the Vienna metro. The railway network of the city is divided into the S-Bahn and U-Bahn.
